Summary

Around 60 years has passed since the public pension system was founded in full scale. Since then, several revisions were made against problems at different times according to necessity. However, our public pension system is still challenged by various problems in the recent slump of Japanese economy, and the birth dearth and the aging society.

In this paper, we will review the present status and the problems, etc., learning lessons from the revision history of the public pension system since its foundation, and study what it should be in the future.
