Curriculum

Dale Gifford next year celebrates his 30th year with Hewitt Associates LLC, as well as his 10th year in the post of Chief Executive. He joined Hewitt as an actuary in 1972 after graduating with honors from the University of Wisconsin.

In his long and illustrious career with Hewitt, Mr. Gifford has occupied a number of positions. Among them, he has assisted in managing the firm's actuarial practice, led the flexible compensation practice, and managed the U.S. Southwest and Midwest regions.

A principal of the firm since 1976, Mr. Gifford has also managed Hewitt's operations outside of North America, as well as having served on the Executive Committee.

In his near-decade long tenure at the helm, Mr. Gifford has been a staunch proponent of the firm's core values of respect for people, excellence, teamwork, and integrity. It has been a period characterized by impressive annual growth, global expansion, and a long record of success. Hewitt's annual revenues have grown from $336 million to $1.5 billion during this period. Additionally, Hewitt's employees have grown in number from about 3,100 in 23 countries, to more than 13,000 in 37 countries.

A Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, Mr. Gifford has also co-authored what many assert is the authoritative book on flexible compensation - Fundamentals of Flexible Compensation (John Wiley & Sons Inc., 1988) - an area in the benefits field pioneered by Hewitt.
