Fraser Low will talk about the European experience of mutual recognition agreements. Dan McCarthy will address the same issues from a Northamerican point of view. Ma. Angeles Felipe will address the issues from the point of view of a country subject to a Napoleonic Code.

Curriculum

Consulting Actuary

Current Responsibility:
Dan is a Principal with Milliman USA and co-manages the New York life and health consulting practice.

Experience:
Dan began his actuarial career at Equitable Life, and joined Milliman USA in 1972. He has worked as a consulting actuary since then, and has led a number of the firm's major consulting projects. For seven years, beginning in the early 1990s, Dan served as the firm's chairman, while continuing to work on consulting projects. Dan specializes in life insurance and healthcare matters. His consulting assignments include mergers and acquisitions, demutualizations, strategic and operational reviews, sales compensation system design and review, appraisals, product development and pricing, and the design, pricing, and review of employee health benefit programs. He is a frequent speaker on actuarial and insurance industry topics.

Affiliations:
Dan has served on the governing boards of both the Society of Actuaries and the American Academy of Actuaries and is currently President of the Academy.

For six years in the 1990s, Dan was one of nine members of the Actuarial Standards Board, which promulgates actuarial standards of practice for actuaries practicing in the US.
