Summary

The paper will review the historic role of actuaries in product development and will look at how this may change in future. It will highlight additional sources of expertise and information and will examine how actuarial skills and techniques may need to changes if we are to maintain an active role in this area.

Curriculum

Current Role:
Product Manager, Life Product Management department (London)
I run a small team of actuarial and marketing specialists providing divisional guidance, research and technical support to Swiss Re Life & Health operations worldwide and to top management on risk management issues for health business. We also assist our local operations with business development initiatives relating to all lines of life and health business.

History:
Joined Swiss Re UK in December 1995 working on valuation, financial reporting and financial reinsurance. 

Led a major strategic project on Long Term Care in the UK and heavily involved in other initiatives within Swiss Re relating to disability, critical illness and medex business in European, Asian and North American markets

Previously worked (11 years) for Legal & General in the UK in a variety of actuarial and general management roles.

Qualification:
Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (1988)

Education:
BSc in Chemistry/Statistics from University of London (1984).
