Curriculum

David is Group Actuary for the BUPA Group (British United Provident Association) and works across its insurance businesses, primarily in United Kingdom, Spain, Ireland and also in its global unit. The BUPA Group, as well as being an insurer, owns and manages hospitals and care homes as a broadly-based dedicated healthcare company. Its lead insurance product in different territories is medical expenses.

David interacts with local BUPA finance teams in the areas of provision setting, solvency, benefit design and pricing. His role also embraces consultation work where changes in insurance supervision and health insurance regulation impact on health insurance. This includes counter-parties such as the UK Financial Services Authority (FSA), Ireland's Department of Health & Children and the European Commission's Competition and Internal Market Directorates.

David is active on the Groupe Consultatif Actuariel Europeen - which recently made a submission to the E.C.-sponsored study of private health insurance in the European Union. He was a member of the UK profession's Financial Condition Assessment Working Party which reported in London in March 2001. He also serves on the Society of Actuaries in Ireland healthcare committee. David works from a London office base and is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries in Scotland.
