The panelists will discuss the role of rating agencies around the world and how Moody's and A.M. Best rate insurance companies (a combination of objective and subjective considerations). They will also address issues faced by rated Companies, as well as issues faced by the rating agencies themselves.

Karen Davies is a Vice President and Senior Analyst at Moody's Investors Service, an international rating agency. She oversees debt and financial strength ratings on a broad portfolio of U.S. and international property/casualty and multiline insurers and reinsurers.

Before joining Moody's in May 1999, she was a Vice President and Pricing Officer at St Paul Re. Prior to that, she held managerial positions in the actuarial and strategic planning departments of MetLife Auto and Home, based in Warwick, RI.

Ms. Davies earned her B.S. degree in Mathematics from the University of Rhode Island. She is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and participates in the CAS's Valuation, Finance and Investment Committee.
