Biographical Sketch: Walter Olbricht started his studies of Mathematics at the University of Wuppertal (Germany) and later received his "Diplom" in Mathematics at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germany), his M.Sc. in Statistics at the University of Sheffield (UK), and his Ph.D. degree at Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germany). He worked at the universities of Wuppertal, Bochum and the MIT. He has been in the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Bayreuth (Germany) since 1993. His main area of research is applied mathematical statistics.
