Biographical Sketch: Allan is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (1974), a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (1975) and an Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (1998). He holds the designation Certified Property/Casualty Underwriter and has held a Lloyd’s Reserve Practicing Certificate. He has worked in both the US and the UK (ten years).
Allan has worked worldwide on all types of property casualty (general) insurance assignments including financial planning, risk assessment, and regulatory issues (including Solvency II), loss reserving, ratemaking and rating plans, merger and acquisition analyses, and new product development.
Allan’s consulting clients have included multi-line primary and reinsurance companies, Lloyd’s syndicates and other London market reinsurers, and specialty companies in areas including motor, workers compensation, medical malpractice, professional liability, health, title and warranty insurance.
Allan is currently a consultant at FTI Consulting, Inc., and a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Audit Committee for an insurance entity based in London. Allan has been the practice leader for the actuarial practices of a major actuarial consulting firm and a “big-four” firm, in the US and Europe.
Allan has served as President of the Casualty Actuarial Society (1994) and the American Academy of Actuaries (1997) and on the General Insurance Practice Executive Committee of the Institute of Actuaries (2002, 2007-2009). Allan has published papers on US Risk Based Capital, EU Solvency II, capital management issues, and other subjects.
Allan is currently Chair of several CAS Research Working Parties focusing on various aspects of risk based capital.
