Biographical Sketch: Christiaan Ahlers graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 1992 with a BSc (Hons) degree in Mathematics. He started with actuarial studies when he joined the individual life division of Metropolitan Life in 1994. By the end of 1998 he joined NBC Consultants & Actuaries with an involvement in employee benefits consulting. Towards the end of 2002 he joined SwissRe as part of corporate actuarial department. He qualified as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in 2003.
In May 2004 he joined the FSB where he is currently the head of the actuarial department (pensions), assisting with the actuarial supervision of retirement funds within the South African legislative framework.
