Biographical Sketch: David worked until December 2012 as a senior pensions consultant and Scheme Actuary with Mercer and predecessor companies for over 32 years, latterly as the UK Professional Leader, chairing their Professional Standards Committee.
He served on Council of the Faculty of Actuaries in Scotland from 1995 – 2002 and 2008-2010 (the latter as vice-president). He served on and chaired the Professional Affairs Board and is now deputy to the lay chairman of its successor Regulation Board. Following merger of the Faculty with the Institute of Actuaries, he was a member of the Council of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries and Leader of the Scottish Board until June 2013.
David is a member of the IFoA International Committee and is deputy chair of the Professionalism Committee of the IAA and chairs the equivalent committee of the Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE - formerly Groupe Consultatif), and so is now an officer of the AAE.
In February 2013 he took up a role as a Non-Executive Director of The UK Pensions Regulator and in June 2013 became Convenor-elect of the United Reformed Church Investment Committee.
He is married with 2 sons and 1 daughter. As well as having interests in family, church and music, David takes part in amateur dramatic productions, and has recently passed on the chairmanship of a local theatre company in St Albans in which he still acts.
