Catastrophe Modelling in a Changing Climate: What Actuaries Need to Know

May 28 @ 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM UTC-4

Join the International Actuarial Association (IAA), Verisk and Moody’s for a webinar that examines the evolving landscape of climate risk and catastrophe (CAT) modeling, with a focus on how advancements in modeling methodologies are shaping risk assessment across the insurance and reinsurance industry.

In this webinar, presenters from Moody’s and Verisk will deliver a joint presentation offering a high level overview of CAT modeling, drawing on perspectives from both organizations. The presenters will collaboratively cover key concepts and developments on how climate is expressed within catastrophe models, areas of active study and speak to treatments across different peril types. The webinar will conclude with an interactive question and answer and discussion period, allowing attendees to engage directly with the presenters and explore practical considerations, emerging trends, and implications for modeling and decision making in a changing risk environment.

This webinar aims to raise awareness, and help actuaries to:
• Understand how catastrophe models are being adjusted to reflect climate risk;
• Recognize the limitations of relying solely on historical data;
• Understand the implications for actuarial applications; and
• Be better equipped to critically interpret and use catastrophe model outputs.

Registration is free and the webinar is open to all interested parties.
