Biography: Maximilian Happacher

President-Elect

Max Happacher began his tenure as President-Elect of the International Actuarial Association on January 1, 2026.

In his role as President-Elect, he serves as a leader & Officer of the Association and is a member of the Executive, Nominations, and Strategic Planning Committees. Max has been involved with the IAA since 2011, serving on the Insurance Accounting Committee from 2011 to 2019 and as Vice Chair of that committee through to 2022. He has also been a member of the Strategic Planning Committee since 2023.

Max began his tenure as a member of the Executive Board of ERGO International AG in July 2018, where he is responsible for the strategic direction and management of the company's life insurance business globally.

With over 28 years of professional experience in the life insurance sector, Max has held various senior positions throughout his career. Prior to his current role as ERGO, he served as a member of the Executive Boards of ERGO Lebensversicherung AG, Victoria Lebensversicherung AG, and ERGO Pensionskasse AG from May 2016 to June 2018. He also held the positon of Chief Actuary and Head of the Actuarial Department of Allianz Deutschland AG from June 2011 to April 2016.

Max began his career at Allianz in 1997 as an analyst in the accounting department and has since progressed through various roles, including Senior Manager of Group Planning and Controlling at Allianz SE, and leading multiple departments focused on asset management, controlling and financial management.

In addition to his extensive professional experience, Max is actively involved in the actuarial community, having served as President of the German Association of Actuaries (DAV) in the past. He has been a member of the DAV since 2003 and has been leading the working group focused on IFRS since 2011. Moreover, Max served as the DAV delegate on the IAA's Insurance Accounting Committee, later taking on the role of Vice Chairperson. He subsequently joined the Strategic Planning Committee.

Max holds a doctorate in Mathematical Statistics from the University of Augsburg, where he also completed his studies in business mathematics.

Outside of his professional commitments, Max enjoys spending time in nature with his wife and their dog.
