Mike Lombardi began his tenure as President-Elect of the International Actuarial Association on January 1, 2025.

As President-Elect, he is a leader and Officer of the Association and is a member of the Executive, Nominations and Strategic Planning Committees. Since starting his involvement with the IAA in 2004, Mike has been an active member of the Executive and Nominations Committees and has served as a Board member for the IACA and IAALS Sections. He was most recently the Council delegate for the Society of Actuaries (SOA), a former Council delegate for the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) and he has served on numerous other entities representing the SOA and/or the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA).  

Mike Lombardi is President of MLBC, which provides consulting services to insurance companies with respect to business strategy, M&A opportunities, reinsurance, and actuarial advice. He also provides technical advice to insurance regulators and conducts expert witness assignments. Since April 2018, Mike has been a member of the Board of Directors of Foresters Financial, a multinational insurance company operating in the USA, UK, and Canada.  

Mike is a former President of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, and a former President of the US-based Society of Actuaries. 

Prior to forming MLBC, Mike was Executive Vice President, European Acquisitions at Reinsurance Group of America (RGA). In this role, he was responsible for identifying, pricing, as well as executing acquisition opportunities in Europe. Mike held various other positions during his years at RGA, including Chief Risk Officer for the company’s Global Financial Solutions Division as well as Chief Pricing Actuary for the International Division. As Chief Pricing Actuary for the International Division, he was responsible for developing non-traditional, (financial reinsurance) opportunities worldwide, working together with the country managers and a dedicated team of business specialists to complete reinsurance transactions.

Before joining RGA, Mike was the Managing Principal at Tillinghast (now Willis Towers Watson) of the company’s Canadian life and property-casualty insurance actuarial consulting practice. During his 18 years with that firm, he specialized in mergers and acquisitions, demutualization, financial reporting, actuarial reserve reviews, and embedded value. 

Mike is a presenter to a variety of insurance industry audiences. These have included the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA), the Society of Actuaries (SOA), the Caribbean Actuarial Association, the Mexican Actuarial Association, the Actuarial Society of South Africa, the Society of Actuaries in Ireland and the Institute of Actuaries of Japan.  Mike has also presented to various actuarial clubs and universities across North America. 

Mike is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA), a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA), a Certified Enterprise Risk Analyst (CERA) a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), and holds an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Mike has 4 children and enjoys reading, history, philosophy, travel, chess, and gardening.
