The International Actuarial Association (IAA) is pleased to announce that, at its meeting in Marrakesh, Morocco, the Council of the IAA approved the following individuals to serve as Officers of the IAA effective January 1, 2026.
- President: Mike Lombardi (USA)
- President-Elect: Maximillian Happacher (Germany)
- Immediate Past President: Bozenna Hinton (Australia)
All terms of office are for one year ending on December 31, 2026
Since starting his involvement with the IAA in 2004, Mike Lombardi has been an active member of the Executive and Nominations Committees and has served as a Board member for the IACA and IAALS Sections. He was most recently the Council delegate for the Society of Actuaries (SOA), a former Council delegate for the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA) and he has served on numerous other entities representing the SOA and/or the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA). His complete bio is available online.
Mr. Lombardi offered these comments upon assuming the position of IAA President:
"We stand at an important moment for both the IAA and our profession,” he said. “The world is facing challenges like never before, and our voice matters because actuaries are uniquely equipped to address important questions that affect millions of people.”
He emphasized the importance of the IAA’s global role, stating that “the IAA must continue to be seen as the face and voice of the global profession.” This, he said, means “supporting public confidence in actuarial work,” “contributing to the future of the actuary with insight and courage,” and “providing clear expectations to our FMAs so that the global profession acts with unity and consistency.” He added that “when actuaries work together across borders, we strengthen the public interest,” and that through their work “we bring clarity to uncertainty, discipline to complexity, and confidence to institutions that depend on long-term, reliable guidance.”
Looking ahead, Mr. Lombardi outlined his presidential priorities. “As I begin this role, my focus will be twofold—to make the IAA more effective and more efficient,” he said. He explained that “effectiveness means choosing the right priorities” and “focusing our energy on work that delivers real value,” while “efficiency means reducing delays and removing obstacles,” as well as “clear decisions, respect for our governance, and supporting representatives and volunteers so that they can contribute with confidence.”
Mr. Lombardi reflected on the profession’s legacy and shared responsibility. “We stand on the shoulders of those who came before us,” he said, noting that “as individuals, our impact is limited, but together, our influence can be profound.” He concluded by emphasizing that “when we speak with one voice, the world listens,” and that “when we act with shared purpose, our profession becomes stronger and more trusted.”
“In closing, I would like to thank my predecessors, Bozenna and Charles, for their outstanding leadership and diligence in pursuing the goals of the IAA. I have learnt so much from them and hope I can live up to the high standards they have set.
I wish you all a Happy New Year and look forward to a successful and productive 2026.”
