IAA Contributes to China Re Symposium on Climate Finance and Risk Management

Audience: All

The IAA was pleased to contribute to the Second Symposium on Climate Finance and Risk Management, hosted by China Re, with a presentation highlighting the role of actuaries in addressing climate-related risks.

The presentation explored how traditional actuarial methods can be combined with climate science and systems thinking, with a focus on water risk and climate-conditioned catastrophe modelling. It also highlighted the importance of understanding model uncertainty and preserving credible tail scenarios when assessing climate-related risks.

The symposium provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on climate risk assessment, stress testing, and the role of actuarial expertise in strengthening climate resilience and addressing insurance protection gaps.

The IAA thanks China Re for the invitation and looks forward to continuing this valuable exchange.
