Bozenna Hinton Represents IAA at 25th Global Conference of Actuaries in India

The International Actuarial Association (IAA) was pleased to be represented by Bozenna Hinton, Immediate Past President, at the 25th Global Conference of Actuaries held in Mumbai, India. 

The conference, held under the theme “Actuarial Pathways to Viksit Bharat: Managing Risks for Inclusive Social and Economic Growth,” convened actuarial leaders and professionals from around the world to exchange insights, discuss key challenges, and foster collaboration across finance, insurance, pensions, and risk management.  

IAA Participates in IOPS & OECD WPIP Meetings and IPRA Conference During OECD Financial Markets Week

The IAA participated in the IOPS Committee Meetings, held jointly with the OECD Working Party on Insurance and Pensions (WPIP), followed by the International Pension Research Association (IPRA) Conference, this week in Paris, France, as part of OECD Financial Markets Week. 

The meetings brought together pension supervisors, regulators, policymakers, and researchers from around the world to exchange perspectives on current developments shaping insurance and pension systems and retirement policy frameworks. Discussions provided a valuable platform to share experiences, examine emerging trends, and strengthen international cooperation in supervision, regulation, governance, and long-term sustainability. 

Past President Charles Cowling actively contributed to the discussions, offering actuarial insights on pension discussions. By engaging in international dialogue, the IAA offers actuarial insights to support ongoing efforts toward resilient and sustainable insurance and pension systems. 

  

Spotlight on Women in Actuarial – An IAA Initiative

This week, the IAA is highlighting the incredible contributions of female actuaries around the world in celebration of International Women’s Day. 

Starting Monday, we began sharing a series of short videos featuring inspiring women from six continents, each sharing their experiences, challenges, and insights into the actuarial profession. Videos will continue to be posted daily throughout the week on the IAA LinkedIn page and website.   

Follow along and join us in celebrating the talent, leadership, and diversity that strengthens the global actuarial community.

IAA Response to Supranational Consultations - IAIS Public consultation on draft revised Application Papers on recovery and resolution 

The IAA submitted the responses to the public consultation by the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) on draft revised Application Papers on recovery and resolution. Click here to access the IAA’s response. 

We thank Nick Dexter (Chair) and the members of the Insurance Regulation Committee  for formulating the response on behalf of the IAA.    

All IAA Public Statements and are posted on the IAA website under Knowledge/Public Submissions. 

  1. Notice of Public Submission - Public consultation on IASB’s Proposed amendments to IFRS 9 and IFRS 7 

The International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) has proposed a new accounting model to better reflect how financial institutions manage interest rate risk throughout their portfolios. Please click this link for more details. The IASB’s consultation is open for comment until 31 July 2026. 

The IAA intends to submit a formal response to this consultation. The Insurance Accounting Committee (IAC) will be responsible for formulating the response to this.  The response will be developed in accordance with the requirements of the IAA Due Process for Making a Public Statements.  

The developing drafts and the final response will be shared with the IAC. Please ensure that your association’s input is provided via your representatives in the IAC.   

If your association does not have a member or an observer in the IAC, you may nominate an observer to the drafting group to review the developing response. We request you to contact Amali Seneviratne (Director Technical Activities) at the IAA Secretariat as soon as possible, but no later than 31 March 2026 if your association wishes to nominate an observer.  Please note that this will be your only opportunity to influence the development of the response, as it will not be circulated outside the IAC.  

The final response will be submitted to the IASB on or before 31 July 2026, subject to approval by IAC members.

The Association pour la Promotion des Sciences Actuarielles (APSA) and the Africa Subcommittee are gearing up for the 7th African Actuarial Congress, the premier event uniting actuarial professionals across the continent. 

The congress will bring together leaders, practitioners, and stakeholders to discuss the latest trends, challenges, and innovations shaping the profession in Africa.
