  International Accounting Standards Property & Casualty

Summary

Extensive discussion is now underway in the development of international accounting standards for insurance contracts through the International Accounting Standards Board. This session will explore these developments from the perspecitive of a property & casualty insurer. In addition, current efforts in the IAA's development of actuarial standards with respect to accounting for insurers will be covered.

 Ralph Blanchard

Curriculum

Ralph has been working as an actuary since graduating from Dartmouth College in 1978. He is currently on the board of directors of both the American Academy of Actuaries and the Casualty Actuarial Society. He is also the Casualty Actuarial Society's representative to the IAA's Insurance Accounting Committee, and on the American Academy of Actuaries Financial Reporting Council, Casualty Practice Council, Fair Value Task Force and Environmental Liabilities Work Group. In the past, he was chair of the task force that created the Casualty Actuarial Society's white paper on fair value, and the chair of the American Academy of Actuaries' Property/Casualty Risk-Based Capital Committee. 

Ralph is currently employed as Second Vice President & Actuary for Travelers Property Casualty, in their Corporate Finance - Accounting Policy department. In addition to his accounting policy responsibilities, he currently provides support to the Corporate Actuarial department, including the analysis of Asbestos liabilities and Risk-Based Capital projections.
